Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Beanie Sigel went from being a hustler on the streets to becoming on of the most revered names in the state of Hip-Hop. He’s made his mark on the game simply by being the person that he always knew; meaning that he perpetuated and image that was no other than himself.beanie_sigel2

In the dawn of the new millennium, there were various different artists and groups who had the necessary talent to extend beyond the sovereignties of Philadelphia (Gilly-Major Figgaz, Most Wanted to name a few) but Beanie Sigel was the artist who spear headed the game by linking up with the top dog of rap, Jay-z.

Eventually, the two became some what of dynamic duo. One who personified the lavish lifestyles of a successful hip-hop artist, and the other who spewed out the emotions of frustration and turmoil created by an impoverished human being; this for not only himself, but for the people… Through out the years, this polaric blend of Broadway and Broad Street fused together and created a bond that extended beyond an appreciation for music.

You know the saying “opposites attract,” well outside of the business aspects of music, this notion certainly held true. But what happens when something comes between those opposites? When a conflict of interest occurs? When the two differ in lifestyles and life choices? When one person feels that the heart is more important than the head…?

Those are questions that i cant answer entirely. But one thing is for sure, and thats somebody always ends up hurt. I hate to sounds so sentimental, but theres no getting around it.

Now I havent had the luxury of personally knowing Beans, but based on his body of work through out his career, and what from he speaks appears to be nothing short of “the truth” So its safe to assume that in the last song that he dropped called “The Average Cat” is no different. He speaks on the differences that he’s had between him and Jay. I’ll let you listen for yourself.

So as we know Beans has had his share of legal troubles. Despite the fact that some may disagree or lack empathy for his situation, he still has had to deal with it. Enduring the turbulences of coming from nothing, to making it big, back to dealing with legal discrepancies are tough for anybody.

In his latest interview with radio show host Charlemagne (100.3 The Beat) he goes in detail about how life was like for him through out all this drama, and how his so called homie Jay-Z pretty much left him out to dry.

Heres the interview so guys can see for yourself.

So there you have it.. Beans spilled out his heart and aired out most of what was going on behind closed doors. Obviously this issue involves money, but more importantly this is about looking out for ya man. I’ve heard a few different opinions about this matter. Some gives the “at the end of the day, this is still a business” explanation, while others see it as Jay-Z only looking out for himself.

My take on this matter is that, Jay could have been there for Beans. Yeah he got into a lot of trouble, but developing a friendship that extended beyond music was an insidious way to gain loyalty that would only benefit himself in the long run. I think Jay knew what he was doing. He took a talented street cat with a passion for music, and took advantage of his lack of understanding about the game. One thing that most people don’t realize, esp young and or up and coming artist, is that we still live in a capitalist society. The way this works is that the owner (Jay-Z for example) is trying to make as much money as he possibly can, regardless of personal or situational circumstances. Whats even worse is that coming from the business and media capital of the world, Jay-Z was born into a culture who understands this ideology and how it works. Beanie Sigel on the other hand came from a place where loyalty, respect and comradery was far more important than making a dollar. So although I understand the business aspect of it, I have to disagree with the people who side with Jay-Z. When your that rich, and have that much to spare, at what point do you realize that a person who considers you a brother to himself is more important than making MORE money. I mean as a person, Jay could of reached out to Beanie when he was doing his bid. Yeah He (Beanie) made some questionable decisions that cost him his freedom, thats still somebody that could use his help. I guess at the end of the day, people that dont want to be help cant be help, but theres a line between letting somebody learn the hard way and letting somebody deal with a world of shit on their own. Like Beanie said, he risked his career going to war with all of Jay-Z’s foes. So even if Jay didnt agree with the moves that Beanie made, just out of consideration and appreciation, I personally think that Jay could have schooled Beans a lot better. You can have all the tools and opportunity to be successful in life, but if no one teaches you how to utilized them, then what good are they?

But thats just my opinion.. Whats yours?

After the first Sunday in the month of October, only a few teams remain unbeaten. Now thats not too unusual when considering the teams that tend to own their divisions and early-game schedules, hence the The Indiana Colts and New York Giants. But What might come to a surprise is That the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints and most importanly the Denver Broncos stand at a perfect 4-0 heading into week 5.B dawkins broncos

Once referred to as the “E”nver Broncos due to their lack of “D”efense, the mile high city  seemingly has been able to force their opponents to run up-hill, or should I say up-mountain… Allowing only 26 points (6.5 per) for their opposition to snack on all season, I guess its now safe to say the “D” is back.

Or Maybe, just maybe the “D” just arrived…

My Philadelphia Eagles are so GM savvy, that they let our best defensive player, and arguably one of the best “DB’s” in the league in “B”rian D”awkins go. Ironically enough, The “DB’s” (Denver Broncos) just needed the right “DB” (Defensive Back) in “BD” (Brian Dawkins) to bring the “D”- back…

SB- I Dare you to try and write this in cursive.. All lower case though, no caps lol..

But thanks to the eagles, the Broncos are now a perfect 4-0.  With the consistent defensive play, this team can make some real noise. Its still too early for me to determine if this team is for real or not, but I’m not about to count these guys out; not with the Alpha male running the show back there barking out  audibles and play actions.. Dawkins was a huge factor in why the Eagles were as successful as they were in the years pass. So why would I expect anything different?

I don’t have any hard feelings towards the departure of Brian Dawkins and the Eagles, but it leaves some what of a sour taste thats comparable to a break up. You think that your the best fit for someone, until you seem them with somebody else and things are a perfect 4-0 … ha! But only time will tell. Maybe they got lucky.. Or maybe their competition wasn’t up to par. Minus America’s team the Dallas Cowboys, the Denver Broncos pretty much beat teams that were beatable. What I’m looking forward to is the team they play next Sunday. The New England Pats blew the Broncos out last year 41 to 7 (cough) EMBARRASSING!

Denver most certainly has a score to settle, and im anxious to see how things pan out. Tom and the Patriots arent as invincible as they once were so this might turn out to be a game after all…

And tune in to see Bret Favre Play against his old team. If the Viks win, then Bret Favre will be the first person ever to beat all 32 teams in the NFL. Wow thats longevity for you..

Although Mike Vick didn’t start, was fairly rusty and didn’t play much, he still managed to go out there and show the world that he was willing to do whatever it takes.

Thats right Mike!

Thats right Mike!

Sure, its a long road back until Vick becomes the beloved sports icon that he once was, but he’s on the right track… Tonight he played multiple positions (QB, Wide out and lining up in the famous wild cat formation), showing that he’s more than just an unconventional quarter back.

With Andy Reed as head coach, I think that We could utilize Mike for more things than just a back up QB. I can see him doing what Reggie Bush does, catching pitches out on the wings and making plays with his feet. What makes it more dangerous, is that he has a cannon that is out of this world! So making the throw down the field is something that defensive coordinators will always have to consider. The Wild Cat offense is just child’s play when factoring in the slew of offensive threats that the Eagles possess.

Because of all the drama surrounding Vick, the city has been polarized, which makes it hard to feel out the general consensus on how the fans will accept him. But when he first stepped out on the field, the crowd was rather welcoming to say the least. We know how things can get with us Philly fans…

“It was awesome. When I was running out onto the field I was listening to see what the reaction was going to be,” Vick said. “I was very pleased. I really didn’t expect that reaction, but I was very thankful.”

I’m sure the city of Philly will come around as a whole, and will sooner rather than later, appreciate Mike Vick for who he is, let alone what he’s capable of doing. Its just gona take some time, but I’m glad he is here..

Welcome Michael Vick!

Eagles win 33-32.

T.I. The Person…

Posted: August 26, 2009 in Music, Philly

This video was captured and edited by a one of my middle school classmate’s brother, Brandon Robinson.

B.R. aka B.I., is T.I.’s personal photographer/videographer. This compilation gives you all a peek inside of the world of T.I. the celebrity, and Clifford Harris the man.

Most of us take it for granted, you know, with all that we see on tv. But there’s a lot of hard work put into this type of career in order to make it successful. More importantly, this video shows you the real life aspects of being the kind of celebrity that T.I. is, not just the glits and glamour.

Great editing. He couldnt have picked a better way to piece together this material. It correlates so well with the song.

Shout outs to Marcus R.

31 years old and still doing!

Kobe Bryant is still the leagues best player, and remains at the top of his game. It seems like yesterday when the skinny, peanut head kid from right outside of philly (Lower Marion), came into the league as a young 17-year-old. With all the talk about Lebron owning the league in the future, that might be true, but the MAMBA aint goin nowhere baby.

I look forward to next season. With Artest, L.O.  and the Spaniard back on deck, our chances look rather good for repeating. in the meantime check out this sick vid made by MarJizee on youtube. good Looking!

Alpha Boy Musik presents, Vasquez Da General.

vasquez blog pic

Straight out of North Philly, Vasquez Da General is anything but your typical Philly rapper. Having known him personally through out high-school, I’m  quite aware of not only is talent and potential, but of his intellect as well. Philly has a reputation of producing rappers whose style, content and sounds are virtually identical. To a degree, there might be some truth to that matter, but when listening to his concepts and delivery, along with an above average vocabulary, you would generally disagree with that stereotype. With the right exposure and work ethic, Vasquez Da General has the potential to become an very well known rapper, native of Philadelphia.

Mike Vick: Rhetorically Speaking…

Posted: August 14, 2009 in NFL, Philly, Sports

For most of us, the realm of sports is an outlet…  An outlet that allows us to take our minds off of the real world and the stress that it demands. And as for the true sports fans, we have a tendency to live vicariously through our fav teams and players. Anyone who knows me, knows how much of a nut job i can be when it comes to the Kobe and the Lakers. It’s like when they win, so do I! And when they lose? I get out right pissed!

Having said that, im sure Michael Vick’s true fans are in a world of turmoil. Most, probably live in the deep south somewhere in close proximity to Atlanta, and that proposes a problem. Do they ride with Mike Vick? or stay loyal to their hometown team? because in the the NFL things can get personal. Dont think so? Just ask somebody in your city who’s their team in the NFL, and when they tell you who, tell them that your are a fan of their team’s rival team and see if ya’ll don’t lock eyes and square off! lol …So its only rational to ask, “will the true Mike Vick fans join the pool of people who utterly despise him?” After all they have their reasons… (I’m talking about the true fanatics who took it to heart.) In many ways he let his fans down.  Like, he can dodge and break tackles, but he couldn’t dodge this one lol..  Just kidding lol!

But in all seriousness, this country loves adversity and is always willing to give second chances nonetheless. Its just going to take a lot of HARD WORK on Vick’s behalf, and for those who are unforgiving to be less cynical.

I personally think that the punishment over exceeded the crime and people should realize that even celebs aren’t perfect.  They are human just like the rest of us… I also think that there’s so much we don’t know about this case and significant details that will never be disclosed. But for the sake of the NFL and for what its worth, could we be more understanding and less condescending towards him, and allow that man to do what he does best… ENTERTAIN!

Oh, and big ups to Mcnabb for welcoming Vick to the team, we all know what happened the last time when a he shared the light with another superstar!!

Here’s a Preview of Michael Vick’s interview with James Brown of Fox Sports

Do you forgive him? does he sound sincere?

After two long years of degradation and humiliation, Michael Vick now has the chance to replenish his integrity and resurrect his career!

michael-vick (1)

Now I’m not typically a football fanatic but, as a proud Philadelphian and casual football/eagle’s fan, I have been unseemingly intrigued by this new addition to the team.  Vick, as we all know, previously spent a bit over a year and some change serving time in prison for the notorious dog fighting scandal. The lost of endorsements and the prison acclimation process had to be tough to endure, but is no match for the stigmas that he will have to battle, for what seems to be the rest of his career.

Ironically enough, the Philadelphia Eagles were THE team to go out on a limb and sign the bewildered Michael Vick to a 2 year deal, which is very feasible considering his situation. With all the controversy that surrounded the “Birds” through out the past decade or so, (McNabb’s annual injuries, the soap opera between him and T.O., and the depleted offensive of backfield minus B. Westbrook), its only fitting that the Eagles keep the NFL fans on the edge of their seat. As for the fans in Philly, not only does it give us something to look forward to, but it also  sends the message from the organization itself stating “WE WANT TO GET BETTER.” Talk about the frustration the city of Philly is dealing with… and I aint just talking about sports haha… But this very well could be the remedy my city needs. Last Year with the Phillies was great but we want that BOWL baby!
